An Old Message To A Lost Friend (Myself)

  • by

Years ago, I read a prompt. Years ago, on September 7th, 2015, I responded to it.

As much as I’ve grown in these years, all of this still applies. It’s an ever-changing process. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always fun. I hope some part of you feels all of these things too and takes them with you when you challenge yourself to be better.

Prompt: “While on the beach you decide to write a message in a bottle. What would it say? Who would you like to find it?”

To my lost friend,

We are partners in this distant search, but find ourselves in the same place, where water rushes to the sand constant and steady, while at the same time morphing the smallest of grains and changing beaches.

Good memories begin here, which is why this message travelled to you via byways and currents. This has witnessed a thousand brilliant and gleaming disks rise from the ocean’s depths high into the sky. This has remained intact and steady through turbulent storms and the ceaseless beating of waves, along with the quiet calm that follows. This has seen thriving shorelines, bursting with lively vegetation, along with those who nurture it. This has seen the bright burning globe return again each night to the blue depths of the ocean, no matter the events of the day.
Be like this message. Withstand. Conquer. Float on. Return like the sun, refusing to ignore your own burning, brilliant, and blinding embers.

So, why do I share this today?

Because my life is changing. Because I’m pushing myself in ways I never have before. Because I’m proud of the journey, no matter how messy or beautiful it is or will be.

Where ever your journey takes you, at whatever point in your life, you are not alone in your struggle, your success, your challenges, or your love <3
