A few years ago, I dreamed of this – holding my book in my hands. It’s a surreal experience to see your hard work in front of you, all out there for others to interpret, love, or hate.
Idioms
The origin of the word “idiom” dates back to the Ancient Greeks. Idíōma meant “special feature, special phrasing, a peculiarity,” ídios, meant “one’s own.”
Isn’t it funny that the concept of idioms originated in a world where the wrong thing could get you slaughtered? Even those Greeks had a sense of sarcasm and wit.
I am forever fascinated by idioms because everything about them is up to interpretation. Sometimes, I find myself questioning the simplest word that was said to me. Now, say an idiom, and watch my mind run with the possibilities.
This collection of poetry explores just that. It demands that readers pay close attention. It begs you to question what happens within yourself when you hear an idiom. This collection shares a bit of what I might hear when you say them to me.
Something Different
I wanted something different for my first publication. While many poets create an anthology of 200+ works, I wanted mine to been more purposeful. Through the lens of idioms, I examine and play with words. You too, as a reader, will read, see, and experience just that.
In a heartbeat, I could publish an anthology. Someday, I will. For now though, I will speak to you in idioms, playing with words, whose meaning you will decide.
